Details
Passive Homes are built to standards that far exceed current building codes.
It results in a home that requires very little in heating and cooling costs.
It is a standard started in Europe in the 1990's and now has become more common in the United States.
It is based on the following principles:
1. Passive Solar building design- Southern exposure for winter heat and deep overhangs for shade in summer
2. Energy Efficient Landscaping- Shade trees in summer that drop leaves in winter to allow sun to shine into the home.
3. Advanced window technology- Use of Triple glazed windows and doors.
4. Airtightness- Blower door tests that make sure air exchange is extremely low.
5. Ventilation- ERV use and controlling all air coming in and exiting the building.
6. Lighting and electrical appliances- Use of efficient appliances. LED, and heat pump water heaters, etc.
Come see how a home built here in Pennsylvania is being built to meet these passive standards.
There will hands on demonstrations of the products used, including ICF construction, triple glazed european windows, liquid flashings, Azek trim and solar refelective paint, double wall and styrofoam exterior walls, etc.
Look forward to seeing you all!
